The court has set for November 30 the eviction of La Ruïna, one of the two squats in Barcelona's Plaza Bonanova that became electoral ammunition on the eve of the 28M municipal campaign.
According to sources from Sareb, which owns more than 60% of the property, the court has set that date for the squatters of La Ruïna to leave the property, at the risk of being evicted by the police if they do not do so voluntarily.
Last May, the head of Barcelona's first instance court number 39 upheld the lawsuit filed by Sareb and ordered the squatters to leave La Ruïna, a decision that they appealed before the Barcelona High Court.
The Court has not yet ruled on the claim, but the appeal does not have suspensive effects on the eviction process, so it continues.
La Ruïna and the adjoining El Kubo building, also occupied and owned by Sareb, became electoral weapons on the eve of the 28M campaign, when the mayors of PP, Valents, Vox and Cs went to Bonanova square to show their support for the residents while the extrajudicial eviction company Desokupa announced that it would evict the squatters by force.
Sareb asked the Barcelona courts to evict both properties, where itinerant groups of "squatters" have lived since 2016: the court ordered the eviction of El Kubo last March, but it was postponed due to a lack of security measures as it was adjacent to La Ruïna.
In fact, the police were betting on executing both evictions together.
