The Lluçanès extends along the transition plateau between the Plana de Vic and the Berguedà, in contact with the Pre-Pyrenean. Sant Feliu Sasserra is the historic capital.
Until now, in the administrative division of Catalonia it had been considered as a sub-region. However, its people felt it as a land with its own physiognomy.
That is why the Parliament has voted in favor of creating the region. following the request of the municipalities of Alpens, Lluçà, Olost de Lluçanès, Perafita, Prats de Lluçanès, Sant Agustí de Lluçanès, Sant Boi de Lluçanès and Sant Martí d'Albars.
Lluçanès received the name of the castle of Lluçà, documented since 905. Its heritage includes Rocadepena, the monastery and the castle of Lluçà, Sant Salvador de Bellver, Santa Llúcia, El Roure de la Senyora, the castle of Perafita, the Romanesque bridge of Sant Martí d'Albars, the modernism of Prats de Lluçanès, the old church of Sant Bartomeu del Grau, the castle of Olost de Lluçanès, the castle of Tornamira, the cathedral of Lluçanès (Santa María de Olost) or Puig Ciutat .
The biodiversity of Lluçanès includes 4,200 species, among which more than 2,000 species of invertebrates stand out, including the lucano deer, also called flying deer or European beetle, or the Eriogaster catax moth.
