The difficult breaking of the ice for the great pacts between Puig and Mazón

Carlos Mazón has reiterated it every day for a week. He wants to reach pacts with the opposition, mainly with the PSPV, to defend the Valencian agenda before the Government: financing, debt relief, investments and water, mainly. The president insists that, regardless of his criticism of the PSOE's pacts with the Catalan independentists, he wants, as he stressed yesterday, "to work for what unites us and not for what separates us."

Ximo Puig, also almost every day, emphasizes his desire for dialogue with the Valencian president, but reiterates his conditions: that the PP condemn and help stop the attacks on PSPV headquarters and put an end to the accusations against socialist officials, especially to those who have supported the Amnesty Law and the investiture of Pedro Sánchez in Congress.

There is one more condition that Ximo Puig imposes, which he specified yesterday in a letter to Carlos Mazón; that the PP also address, before reaching any agreement, what is known as the “cultural battle” sponsored by Vox, a partner of the PP. Specifically, as was written yesterday, the denialism of gender violence and climate change, cultural and anti-Valencian censorship, what he calls “the loss of democratic quality” and guaranteeing the quality of public services. That is, the PSPV requests that before reaching any agreement “outwards” to pressure the Government, issues be addressed “inwards” of the Valencian institutional system.

Carlos Mazón has summoned the opposition parties for tomorrow at the Palau de la Generalitat. We want to make these meetings official at the highest level. Ximo Puig will not go on behalf of the PSPV, who has excused his attendance because he was present at the opening of the investiture in the Senate (he is a regional deputy and senator). The trustee of this party, Rebeca Torró, and the deputy spokesperson, Arcadi España, will attend. On the part of Compromís, yesterday it was said that today it would be announced who would attend. If the ombudsman Joan Baldoví does not attend, it is likely that Aitana Mas and Vicent Marzà will attend.

To begin with, the gestures of the two main political forces, PSPV and PP, are positive; But another thing is the possibility of closing agreements to establish broad pacts. Vox's position on issues such as gender violence, culture (with the provisions that have been adopted to dynamit the cultural model of the Botànic, with deep discomfort in the cultural industry), the pressure to damage the Valencian Academy of Language ( AVL) and against the normative Valencian; or climate change denialism are elements that make the agreement difficult.

There is one more, which was reflected yesterday in Ximo Puig's letter: the harsh accusations that the PP members make against the PSPV in the debates in the Corts Valencianas. Ana Vega, Vox trustee, called them “terrorists” and accused them of “carrying out a coup d’état.”

At a time when the Government is going to open the financing melon and eliminate the debt, it seems reasonable that the joint action of the PP and PSPV can be positive; Other autonomies such as Galicia or the Canary Islands have already managed to obtain compensation. Carlos Mazón is willing to listen to the offer made by the Government, the complete opposite of what Vox has already stated, which rejects alleviating the debt or changing the financing.

For his part, Ximo Puig said last Sunday that the Valencian federation can be an "interlocutor" with the Spanish executive to guarantee that the Valencian agenda is responded to. Pedro Sánchez has not done so since he has been Spanish president, not even when Ximo Puig presided over the Valencian Community. His pact with Sumar, in theory, obliges him to attend to the Valencian case.

In parallel, yesterday, the Association of Valencian Jurists asked the PP, PSPV and Compromís to act in a coordinated manner towards the Government to, precisely, find a response to the demands of the Valencian agenda. And, furthermore, that these parties pressure so that Valencian Civil Law is finally included in the Constitution
