The Dacia Sandero snatches sales leadership in Spain from the Chinese model MG ZS

The Dacia Sandero, another low-cost model from the French group Renault, regained its position as the best-selling car in Spain in October, displacing the Chinese car MG ZS, which was the leader the previous two months. Last month, 3,059 Sandero were registered, 80.4% more, compared to 2,421 MG ZS, which had a growth of 129.3%. The Toyota Yaris Cross climbed to third position, with 1,819, 94% more.

Regarding the accumulated data for the first ten months of the year, the Dacia Sandero is also the leader, followed by the Seat Arona and the Peugeot 2008, while the MG ZS has slipped into the top ten, specifically in sixth position, according to the data prepared by Ideauto for the associations of manufacturers (Anfac), dealers (Faconauto) and sellers (Ganvam).

By brands, Toyota has strengthened its leadership, which it already achieved in 2022, with 66,775 cars (11%) until October. They are followed by Kia (55,514 units, 6% more); Volkswagen (53,052 units, with an increase of 7.7%); Peugeot (51,485 units, 10.3% more); and Seat, with 49,891 (19%).

In October, registrations surprised with a growth of 18% and 77,892 units, a greater advance than had been predicted by the sector. With this, in the cumulative total of the first ten months, 789,272 units have been reached, with an increase of 18.5% compared to the same period in 2022.

Sales of pure electric vehicles increased by 89.6% in October, with 6,177 units registered. However, they represent only 6.48% of the market share for the month, while in the first ten months as a whole they represent 5.21%. Plug-in hybrids have grown by almost 30%, also with a market share of around 5%. Somewhat better are the data for non-plug-in hybrids, whose share is currently close to 27%. Gasoline represents almost 42% and diesel 13%.

In the case of electric vehicles, the Tesla Model 3 has been the best seller, after growing more than 3,000% and registering 624 units in October. And in the ten months, it is another Tesla, the Model Y, the best seller, which is also the sales leader in Europe, not among electric vehicles, but in the total market.

Félix García, spokesperson for Anfac, highlighted that “October has closed with double-digit growth that improves forecasts. With last month's figures we can think that if the growth rate is maintained in November and December we could exceed 940,000 units. A fact that improves the disastrous 2022, where only 813,000 passenger cars were sold.” However, he regretted that the level of one million units would not yet be exceeded.

Raúl Morales, communication director of Faconato, stressed that “the market has been greatly favored by the fact that there is more stock in the dealerships, more vehicles available.” His prediction is that this year there will be “easily” more than 950,000 units.
