In the Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia we have visited the area of the Pèlags de Vilobí del Penedès, also known as the Parc dels Talls, in the Alt Penedès region.
This unique landscape is made up of the ancient gypsum quarries of the Vilobí hill and has great ecological and geological value.
The pelagos appeared as a result of the gypsum extractive activity that dates back to Roman times and which has been an activity specific to Vilobí until 1993.
Currently, we discover a humid area with the presence of many species of birds, including some that are protected. Furthermore, four different environmental spaces meet in the same area: rocky, forest, agricultural and aquatic.
The walk through this area shows us pine forests in transition towards the coastal oak forest, calcareous species such as rosemary and lake communities. The availability of water and the humid environment has favored the presence of birds such as the great cormorant, the colverd duck or the gray heron.
