The bargains at the drug dealer car auction in Madrid

Buying a car at a bargain price is an opportunity that rarely presents itself. Not only second-hand vehicles, whose price increased by 5.1% in 2023 to reach an average of 18,900 euros, according to the dealer association Ganvam, are a viable option for those with tight budgets. However, the opportunity to participate in a car auction becomes an attractive alternative when SUVs are offered from 100 euros or sports cars for 200 euros, as is the case of a batch of vehicles seized from drug traffickers that will be auctioned from the 23rd to the 30th. of April.

The auction, organized by the Ministry of Health, through the Government Delegation for the National Plan on Drugs, covers a total of 237 assets, including civil works machinery, trucks, cars and vans from illicit drug trafficking and other crimes. As for vehicles, the prices are real bargains: you can bid on an SUV from 100 euros, a truck from 150 euros or a sports car from 200 euros.

Among the notable offers in the auction are a Land Rover Freelander SUV with a starting price of 140 euros, a Suzuki Grand Vitara for 270 euros and a Chevrolet Corvette Hatch for 1,101 euros, among a wide variety of models available. Classic car lovers have the opportunity to bid on a Mercedes Benz 170S-T, a car manufactured by the German firm between 1949 and 1955, which begins its bidding with an initial price of 11,500 euros.

Trucks, dump trucks, trailers, semi-trailers and vans are also offered, as well as civil engineering machinery and tractor heads from the Carterpillar, Volvo, Nissan, Iveco, Mercedes and Scania brands. All of these assets come from a single criminal organization and several convicted in various sentences, but all related to each other.

All the vehicles that will be auctioned have been reviewed by specialists in order to market them in suitable conditions for subsequent use. In addition, a calendar of prior visits has been enabled, on April 16, 17 and 18, so that interested parties can inspect the goods that are in the facilities of a warehouse in the town of Valdetorres de Jarama, about 40 kilometers away. from Madrid.

The auction will be held through the Escrapalia portal between April 23 and 30 and any natural or legal person can participate in it with the aim of giving a second life to the confiscated assets.

Bidding for passenger cars and vans will end on April 23, while offers for tractor heads, dump trucks, trailers, semi-trailers and gondolas will be active until April 25. On April 30, the bidding for the civil works machinery will close.

The money obtained in the auction by the Confiscated Assets Fund will be used to reverse the damage caused by drug addiction and drug trafficking, that is, to finance programs for the prevention of drug addiction, assistance and labor and social integration.

According to the National Plan, in 2023, 28 million euros were raised through this type of auction, of which 70% was allocated to drug demand reduction programs and 30% to crime prosecution and police and customs actions. .
