The Barcelona School Climate Plan works to improve the well-being of students and confront the climate emergency

This summer, the application of the Barcelona School Climate Plan will begin, a municipal initiative to air-condition schools that has a double objective: on the one hand, to ensure air quality and thermal comfort for students and professionals in educational centers, both in hot and cold months, providing an environment of well-being for education and learning.

On the other hand, the new plan will contribute to the decarbonization and reduction of polluting emissions, energy savings and the sustainability of educational centers, mainly through the installation of aerothermal equipment and photovoltaic panels. These new systems will transform educational centers into energy producers, favoring self-consumption and involving the educational community and students in the fight against the climate emergency. The energy surplus will also be used to supply other municipal equipment.

It is estimated that 55,519 students will benefit from these actions and that more than 1.1 million euros will be saved in energy consumption.

A project in two execution phases

The Barcelona Education Consortium will be in charge of executing the project, partially financed by the tourist tax, which foresees an investment of 13.7 million euros in 2024 and 17 million euros annually until 2029.

The two execution phases are the following:
