The Barajas airport operates normally despite the strike of ground operators

The Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport operates normally on the first day of the strike by SDP (Platform Management Service) employees or ground movements of aircraft that began at midnight this Sunday, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the aerodrome.

The same source has highlighted that the strike, called by the UGT union until January 7, has not caused flight delays or cancellations so far. The approximately 35 employees of the Skyway company are called to the mobilization, which was awarded the service in 2022, with a proposal 15% lower than that of the previous company and 30% lower than the starting price.

According to UGT, this reduction has resulted in the inability to maintain previous working conditions, taking advantage of the absence of subrogation and collective agreement in an essential service of public interest.

The union assures that, since 2011, the SDP has experienced a progressive deterioration in working conditions and quality of service under various companies, intensifying the problem with the current management of Skyway in an economic context of accumulated inflation of 24% since 2011. .

The minimum services established by the Ministry of Transport reach 91% of operations, although UGT highlights that only 58% of international flights and 32% of national flights are guaranteed.

The air navigation manager Enaire, for its part, has stated in a statement that the strike call exclusively affects the operators that provide the Apron Management service at terminals T1-2-3 and T4 at Barajas airport, and not to air traffic control services, a "differentiated and independent" service.

In the same sense, Alternativa Sindical AENA/Enaire (ASAE) clarifies in a note that the strike affects private and external workers of the public companies AENA and Enaire, "which have nothing to do with the two public companies." ASAE requests AENA "to deprivatize the SDP carried out in 2011 and to return these functions to the staff of the public companies Enaire or AENA to avoid conflicts."
