The Assís entity will open a home for ten homeless women in Barcelona

In the next few days, ten homeless women will occupy ten small apartments in the Sarrià neighborhood of Barcelona, in a facility managed by the Assís association through an agreement with Barcelona City Council. The Llar Rosario Endrinal, in memory of the woman murdered in 2005 in an ATM, has common spaces and is designed to accommodate citizens who subsist on the street or who are experiencing chronic homelessness. During their stay they will receive socio-educational support.

With this new infrastructure, Barcelona has a total of 2,913 residential places for homeless people, of which 206 are for women. The stay in this accommodation is indefinite and is not conditional on the social support process. From Assís they indicate that it is a pioneering resource in Spain for women, which is based on the housing first methodology. The annual budget is 273,334 euros. The building was built on a plot of land given by the city council that required an investment of one million euros.

It is estimated that every year more than 300 women sleep on the streets of Barcelona. According to the Homeless Assistance Network (XAPSLL), around 800 citizens were housed in different facilities for homeless people, in 2023.

Yesterday, coinciding with 8M, the mayor, Jaume Collboni, led a municipal delegation that inaugurated the Llar Rosario Endrinal.
