The Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández and Valencia airports broke their historical passenger records in 2023. More than 15.7 million passengers passed through the Alicante airfield, 19.2% more than in 2022. And 9.9 million travelers passed through the Manises terminal, with an increase of 22.6%, which is the largest among the main Spanish airports.

Of the total number of travelers who used the Alicante terminal in 2023, 13,521,335 traveled on international flights, which represents an increase of 20.4% compared to 2022. The national ticket totaled 2,206,069 people, 12.8% further.

By nationality, the countries that contributed the most passengers in 2023 were the United Kingdom (5,439,533); followed by the Netherlands (1,070,976); Germany (895,707); Belgium (876,010) and Norway (771,762).

In terms of operations, the Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport managed a total of 100,547 flights in 2023, which implies exceeding the movements managed in 2022 by 11.6%.

In the month of December, Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández once again registered a record and exceeded one million passengers for the first time in this month, as already happened in November. There were exactly 1,041,546 travelers who used the terminal in the last month of the year, which represents a growth of 22.8% compared to the same period in 2022.

As for Valencia Airport, it has also closed the best year in its history with 9,948,141 passengers registered in 2023. The traffic record remains very close to 10 million travelers and exceeds the previous best figure for the Valencian terminal, registered in 2019 with 8,539,579 passengers.

Of the total number of travelers counted in 2023, 7,044,009 traveled on international flights, which represents an increase of 26.5% compared to the previous year. On domestic flights, 2,880,541 people were counted, 14% more.

Among international travelers, the most numerous were those of origin or destination in Italy (1,486,330); followed by France (864,207); Germany (850,080); United Kingdom (845,922); Netherlands (705,589); and Portugal (341,799).

Regarding operations, Valencia Airport managed a total of 82,234 flights in 2023, which represents an increase of 11.9% compared to movements in 2022.

In the month of December, Valencia airport once again recorded a monthly passenger record, adding a total of 725,332 travelers, 18.6% more than the previous year.

The president and CEO of Aena, Maurici Lucena, has highlighted that these "record" figures in air transport "are fundamental for the economic and social development of Spain." "We should all congratulate ourselves on them. Also the airlines that, like Aena, suffered the harsh consequences of the pandemic, and are now transporting more passengers than ever," he expressed.
