The Aemet warns of a drop in temperatures in the final stretch of Holy Week

The extensive and deep storm Nelson will continue to mark the weather during the remainder of Easter, according to the special forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). Rainy days, snowfall and strong winds are expected until Monday, which will affect a large part of Spain. These phenomena will be accompanied by a drop in temperatures, which will begin to be noticed starting this Friday.

This Thursday the storm will continue to be centered around the British Isles, inducing a southwesterly flow over the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands that will transport a mass of warmer air and the passage of successive Atlantic fronts that will leave cloudy skies and widespread rainfall.

The Atlantic slope and the Pyrenees will be the most affected areas, with the most persistent and intense rainfall. On the contrary, in the Mediterranean area the probability and intensity of precipitation is much lower.

Southwest wind will continue to blow with very strong gusts in much of the Peninsula, the Balearic Islands and Ceuta. Up to 70 kilometers per hour are expected in areas of the Basque Country. Orange warnings (significant risk) have also been activated for combined sea and waves of up to 6 meters in up to six communities.

Temperatures and snow levels are expected to continue rising this Thursday, with snowfall remaining restricted to mountain areas in the north of the peninsula. However, the values will drop for the final stretch of Holy Week, from west to east, between Friday and Saturday, while on Sunday they would not experience significant changes, advances Aemet.

The drop in temperatures will be accompanied by more rain and wind. Although Storm Nelson will weaken, widespread instability is expected to continue in the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, with the passage of successive Atlantic fronts that will give rise to practically widespread rainfall, with lower probability and intensity in the Mediterranean area.

The greatest amounts of precipitation will occur on Friday in the strip from Navarra and Huesca to western Andalusia and on Saturday and Sunday in the south and southwest of the Peninsula. On Sunday, rain will also be likely in the Mediterranean area.

Storm Nelson, although it will weaken, will leave weak rains even on Monday, except in western Galicia where more intense rains are expected.
