Ten years since the murder of Asunta, the infanticide that kept Spain in suspense

The girl's name Asunta Barrera Porto was in all the headlines ten years ago. And she would be for a long time. It was an infanticide that kept Spain in suspense.

The case came to light when the former couple reported Asunta's disappearance to the police station on the night of September 21, 2013. She was 12 years old and they had adopted her when she was a baby. The minor's body was found in a ditch near Teo's family home (A Coruña) and, after that, an investigation began in which it was discovered that the girl had been continuously ingesting anxiolytics. And that she died in a violent way, from asphyxiation. She was murdered by her own parents, as she later confirmed in a sentence, without knowing what the motive was that prompted them to do so.

In this decade, the mother (Rosario, "Charo", Porto) took her own life in prison in November 2020, the father (Alfonso Basterra) remains in the Teixeiro prison in Coruña without requesting permits that he could obtain -, for example with the case of weekend outings - and the chalet where everything happened, according to EFE, has been squatted. In addition, the Galician capital has been filming a series about the grisly case, which will star Candela Peña. We recover audio and text reports that review the history of the Asunta case:
