Ten dead in an attack against a vehicle rally in Mexico

An armed attack that took place today in the town of San Vicente, in Baja California, northern Mexico, left at least 10 dead and nine injured, the Ensenada municipal government reported this Saturday. The attack on civilians occurred while the fifth edition of the so-called "Cachanillazo" was taking place, an off-road racing event with Razer-type vehicles.

According to the official report, the municipal government maintains close coordination with the Baja California State Attorney General's Office, "in order to assist in the inquiries that lead to the clarification of the facts."

The first report was submitted to the Municipal Public Security Directorate at around 2:18 p.m. local time (7:00 p.m. GMT) through the 911 emergency number, and in the notice it alerted about firearm detonations, as well as that several people were injured.

In addition, it was indicated that a gray van arrived at the area located on the Transpeninsular highway, kilometer 90, of the San Vicente delegation, from which several people got out and began to shoot with long weapons at the pilots who were parked.

After the announcement, they went to the personal area of ​​the municipal police, the State Citizen Security Force, the Secretary of the Navy, the State Investigation Agency, the Secretary of National Defense, the Fire Department and the Mexican Red Cross. The Red Cross was in charge of the transfer of the wounded to the urban area of ​​the municipality, in addition to the fact that two were treated in San Vicente.

For his part, the mayor of Ensenada, Armando Ayala, regretted the attack against the participants of this race and those who left the Playa Hermosa area this Saturday morning. He also recognized the support of the Attorney General of the State of Baja California, Ricardo Iván Carpio, who entrusted the case to a special investigation group to investigate this fact.

"I am in permanent communication with the State Attorney General's Office, as well as with the federal corporations of the three levels of government to provide all the necessary information," he commented. Likewise, he explained that surveillance was increased in the delegations of the southern zone of the municipality of Ensenada and the operations to locate those responsible for the attack will remain active.
