Spanish companies are taking advantage of the knowledge of their country of origin in the development of regasification infrastructures at a time marked by the urgency of Germany to look for new sources of supply after stopping importing Russian gas. Técnicas Reunidas and FCC have just been awarded, in consortium with Entrade, the contract to develop a large regasification plant in Germany.
The project has been awarded by the company Hanseatic Energy Hub and has a value of 1,000 million euros. The part corresponding to Técnicas Reunidas amounts to 500 million euros, while the other 500 million euros are related to FCC and Entrade, which is a 100% subsidiary of the Turkish company Enka.
The facilities will help to ensure the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) by ship to Germany, which until now has only come from pipelines.
The winning companies will be in charge of an EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contract for the execution of a new liquefied gas storage and regasification terminal in the river port of Stade, which is part of the Hamburg metropolitan region.
The land on which the facility will be built belongs to Chemicals, which participates in the project as one of the promoting partners. The terminal will use Dow's industrial waste heat, so it will be able to regasify the gases without additional CO₂ emissions.
The project will develop rapidly and has been divided into two phases. The first, which includes preliminary work and engineering, will last five months. The second, which constitutes the main contract, is subject to the final investment decision of the Hanseatic Energy Hub, scheduled for next summer.
Técnicas Reunidas will design the regasification terminal and the two storage tanks, each with a capacity of 240,000 cubic meters, and will carry out all the equipment and material supply works for the project. FCC will build the tanks and carry out all the site preparation and civil works activities for the plant. It is estimated that the complete execution of the plant will last until 2027.
At the end of last year, the consortium formed by the Spanish Sener and the French Cobra, which belongs to Vinci but was a subsidiary of ACS until recently, was awarded the construction of the German regasification terminal for German LNG, the first of Germany.
