Swimming season in the middle of February

Spring temperatures, calm sea, in Blanes, the Portal of the Costa Brava, since it is the first town we find after the coast of Barcelona and it is the unofficial capital of the La Selva region.

The weather is so good at the beginning of the month of February, when in theory we are in winter, that you can even see bathers taking a good dip in one of the coves, as we see in this video in La Vanguardia Readers' Photos .

Blanes is also a well-known tourist town, where its coves and beaches surrounded by mountains make this place a very desirable place to spend the summer. But it seems that summer has advanced a few months and winter wants to take over these days of February.

The Sant Joan castle is the highest point in Blanes. From here you can see almost the entire municipal area. Highly recommended for its beautiful views, as well as walking along the coastal path.

One of the phenomena that we can observe in the photographs is the solar pillar. The effect is created by the reflection of light from small ice crystals that are suspended in the atmosphere or that comprise high-altitude clouds (for example, cirrostratus or cirrus clouds). If the light comes from the sun (generally when it is near or even below the horizon), the phenomenon is called a solar pillar, as in this case in Blanes.

A pillar light is an atmospheric optical phenomenon in which a vertical beam of light appears to extend above and/or below a light source.
