The Spanish technical team won the silver medal in the team technical final of the World Swimming Championships held at the Aspire Dome in Doha (Qatar). With a score of 275.8925, the Spanish team was behind the Chinese team coached by the Catalan Anna Tarrés, who undisputedly won the gold with close to 300 points (299.8712). The bronze went to Japan, just two tenths behind Spain (275.8787).
Thus, the Spanish returned to the podium a year after the historic performance of 281 points in Fukuoka (Japan), where they won gold thanks to the best result of Spanish swimming in the history of this discipline. The choreography of this edition, to the rhythm of Leonard Bernstein's Mambo, demonstrated the good progression of the swimmers and materialized the fourth Spanish medal of the current World Cup event. Furthermore, with the success achieved, the Spanish artistic swimming team is in second place in the race for the Olympic place.
The team led by Mayuko Fujiki performed in second-to-last position, before Japan and China, and had Iris Tió as a luxury reinforcement. The swimmers Marina García Polo, Meritxell Mas, Paula Ramírez, Lilou Lluis, Alisa Ozhogina, Sara Saldaña, Blanca Toledano and the already named Tió have participated in the choreography.
The silver achieved is the fourth medal for Spain in the Swimming World Cup that is taking place in Doha. María de Valdés obtained the first metal, with a silver in the 10 kilometers of open water. The pair formed by Nicolás García Boissier and Adrián Abadía won bronze in synchronized jumping on Sunday, a unique milestone as it was the first medal in the history of Spain in jumping. The Spanish Dennis González fell just short of the medals in the technical solo and, finally, was fourth in a competition dominated by the Chinese Shuncheng Yang.
