Sergiño Dest leaves Barça and returns on loan to the Netherlands

Sergiño Dest will not wear the Barça colors again this season. The American full-back goes on a one-year loan to Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven, following his one-year loan to AC Milan the previous season. The agreement also includes a purchase option for 11 million euros, so a good season could mean that he will not wear the Barcelona shirt again.

The defender landed in the ranks of the club in October 2020, coming from Ajax for a figure of 21 million euros. It was precisely there, in the Netherlands, where he lived his best moment and that led the Catalans to notice him. Since then his career has suffered from numerous ups and downs that have not allowed him to consolidate either at Barça or at Milan.

With Barcelona he came to play a total of 72 games, 56 of them as a starter, in his first two seasons. He then came on loan to the Italian team, where he barely played 14 games. His decline was such that he was even left out of the final stretch of the Champions League in which those from Serie A reached the semifinals.

The loan to the northern Italian club also included a purchase option that the Rossoneri ultimately decided not to execute. He will now have a new opportunity to resurface in the league that saw him explode at just 19 years old. In addition to him, he arrives in the country where he was born and grew up, since despite representing the United States, he lived his entire childhood and youth in the Netherlands.

With all this context, the winger hopes to raise his hand and revive a career that, at just 22 years old, still has a long way to go. It seems difficult for him to spend a full season at Barça again in the future, so standing out at PSV and seeking to sign him permanently, either there or with another team, could be his best option.
