Salut invests five million euros in the new CAP of Pineda de Mar

The Department of Health of the Generalitat has invested five million euros in the execution of the works of the new primary care center (CAP) of Pineda de Mar (Maresme), which will provide modern equipment adapted to the current needs of the population of the municipality.

The new center will be located on a plot of land on Tribala Street provided by the Pineda City Council, a short distance from the current CAP (located on Tarragona Street) and will have 29 consultations for general medicine, paediatrics, nursing, midwifery, dentistry and of others for multipurpose use. The manager of the Girona Health Region, Jaume Heredia, visited the works and verified the progress of the work, which is expected to be completed in the last quarter of this year. The visit was also attended by the first deputy mayor of the City Council, Sílvia Biosca, and councilor Santiago Macip.

The building will be structured into a semi-basement floor, a ground floor and a first floor and the rooms will be structured around an interior patio which will provide light and ventilation, especially to the basement floor. The healthcare activity will be concentrated on the first floor, where the bulk of the general medicine and nursing consultations will be, as well as dentistry and multipurpose consultations. The main entrance with the lobby and the area for citizen care, pediatrics and unscheduled and urgent care will be located on the ground floor (four treatment rooms and four extraction boxes). In the basement there will be the tocogynecology and midwife consultation, the health education classroom for community activities and the EMS base, which will have independent access. Also in the basement there will be the staff areas with work rooms, offices, changing rooms, guard bedrooms and warehouses.

The manager of the Girona Health Region, Jaume Heredia, has highlighted the investment of the Department of Health in the new CAP of Pineda de Mar, which will mean "a significant improvement in the health facilities in the area." "This work reflects our commitment to the continuous improvement of health care and the equipment from which it is provided," he stated. Heredia stressed that the new center "adds to the current CAP on Tarragona Street, which will remain as a health center and could host, for example, some of the community activities." However, "its definitive uses are just being defined."

The new CAP is built following the architectural project designed by Casa Solo Arquitectes, winners of the ideas competition. It will consist of a compact, white building, with ceramic gaps in the façade that seeks to recover the tradition of coastal buildings. A large porch will be located on the façade from end to end, and at one end it will accommodate the base of the SEM. In total, the health center will have a constructed area of 2,500 square meters.

The current CAP of Pineda de Mar was built in the mid-80s and is one of the oldest in Catalonia. It is part of the Basic Health Area (ABS) of Pineda de Mar, managed by the Catalan Health Institute and which is made up of the municipalities of Pineda and Santa Susanna. The ABS has a CAP, the one in Pineda de Mar, and two local offices: one in the Poblenou de Pineda neighborhood and the other in Santa Susanna. The three centers together serve a population of more than 32,000 people, of which about 20,000 are assigned to the Pineda CAP. During 2023, the center made more than 90,000 in-person visits.

The new CAP has been sized in accordance with population growth forecasts, as well as the population load that occurs during the summer. Furthermore, the evolution of professional staff and the incorporation of new profiles makes it necessary to have larger and more equipped facilities in accordance with this increase in workers.
