Russia accuses Ukraine of trying to assassinate Putin in a drone attack on the Kremlin

Russia on Wednesday accused Ukraine of attempting to carry out a drone attack on the Kremlin overnight with the aim of killing President Vladimir Putin. The accusation was made by the Kremlin and reported by Russian news agencies.

The Russian government described this fact as a "terrorist act" and an "assassination attempt" and stressed its right to respond "when and as it deems necessary."

According to the Interfax agency, two drones that were heading to the Kremlin were destroyed and their remains fell on the premises of the president's main headquarters. that he was safe and continued to work with no changes to his schedule. The Kremlin adds that there was no damage or casualties, without providing further details.

"We consider these actions to be a planned terrorist act and an attempt on the president's life," says the note released by Moscow.

Shortly before the Kremlin statement was released, Moscow city authorities issued an order banning the use of drones in the capital, the state news service Tass reported.

If the attack is confirmed, it would not be the first time that Ukrainian drones have attacked Russian territory. In fact, in the early hours of this Wednesday, after a drone attack, a fuel tank caught fire in the krai of the Russian city of Krasnodar, very close to the emblematic Kerch Bridge, which links the annexed Crimean peninsula with the Mainland Russia. In response to the sabotage, Russia launched a new drone attack against Ukraine. Nonetheless, a Ukrainian operation against the Russian seat of power would be Kyiv's riskiest such attack to date.
