Luis Rubiales, former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) is at the center of a major operation by the Civil Guard against corruption. The former president will be arrested as soon as he returns to Spain, since he is currently in the Dominican Republic.
As EFE has learned, Rubiales plans to return to Spain on April 6 and has informed the judge investigating the case. The document, in which he claims to be "at the full disposal" of the court, was presented to the court yesterday morning, shortly after the operation of the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard became known in which His home in Granada and the federation headquarters, among other properties, were searched.
After yesterday's searches, today Rubiales wanted to defend his innocence. He has done so through the newspaper El Español, in which he has claimed to be “surprised” by everything that happened.
Rubiales maintains that he has “never done anything wrong” and denies “knowing anything” about the alleged irregular contracts to bring the Spanish Super Cup to Saudi Arabia that the police are investigating. The former president of the Spanish Federation could not be arrested yesterday as he was outside Spain, but the Civil Guard did search his home in Granada, seizing documentation of various kinds.
