Rebellion of the drivers of the EMT of Valencia over the design of the new routes

The EMT works committee has agreed to study the possibility of filing a complaint with the Road Safety Prosecutor's Office against the Valencia City Council due to the risk that, in its opinion, the recent decision to return several bus lines to the city center entails.

As reported to EFE by the president of the committee, Gregorio Rabadán, this agreement was adopted on the 30th, in response to repeated complaints received from the majority of drivers, so a query has been raised to the committee's lawyer to study the possibility of filing said complaint.

The key date for the reform of the lines planned by the City Council is next Tuesday, when the return of the seven-line buses to the Town Hall Square through San Vicente Street is expected, a section that was eliminated yesterday afternoon. -detours were established- due to the crowds of pedestrians.

When consulted by EFE in this regard, Rabadán admits that the complaint prepared by the EMT works council will not arrive in time to request the precautionary suspension of the entry into force of the aforementioned changes.

The EMT union officials have warned that the restructuring of these routes may entail the risk of serious accidents, such as collisions or braking, given that the buses will circulate through pedestrianized areas, without curbs or specific separation for pedestrian circulation.

Precisely to analyze these risks, an evaluation tour is being carried out this Thursday in which both the company's risk prevention technicians and union officials are present, and at its conclusion a report will be issued.

"This risk assessment basically consists of passing through the area with a bus and studying possible black spots, complications in turns or the situation of stops. But the problem is that it will be done in the morning and the volume of people there will be is considerably lower than that of the evening. I doubt that this report is conclusive," Rabadán explains in statements to EFE.
