PSG and Messi will discuss their continuity in the club after the World Cup

The president of Paris Saint Germain, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, has assured that Lionel Messi is happy in the Ligue 1 champion team and that they will open talks about a possible contract extension after the World Cup.

Messi, who has 12 goals and 14 assists for PSG in all competitions this season, joined PSG from Barcelona in 2021 on a two-year contract, which expires in the summer. Asked if the 35-year-old is interested in extending his stay in Paris, Al-Khelaifi told Sky Sports: "Definitely."

"He has had a fantastic performance this season for us, he has scored many goals and assists for the national team and for the club," he added. "So what we agreed together — that after the World Cup, we would sit together. But both sides — our club side and him — are very happy, so we'll talk after the World Cup."

Another player out of contract this summer is Manchester United's Marcus Rashford, who was previously linked with a move to PSG late in the season.

Al-Khelaifi said "all clubs" would be interested in signing the England international as a free agent and that PSG had previously spoken to him. "But the timing was not good for both parties," he said.

"If he's a free agent, of course we can talk to him directly, but we're not going to talk to him now. Let him focus on the World Cup. Then, in January, if we're interested, we'll talk to him."
