The Court of Instruction 1 of Lleida, acting as guard, has agreed to preventive detention without bail for the young man arrested on Wednesday for the death of a taxi driver in Lleida in April of last year.

The case is open for a crime of homicide and the accused has availed himself of his right not to testify.

This Thursday, the Mossos d'Esquadra brought the man to justice, detained early Wednesday morning in the Mariola neighborhood after more than a year and a half of investigation.

The police also searched the suspect's home hours after the arrest in search of more evidence that incriminates him.

DNA tests have been key when it comes to advancing the investigation and identifying the alleged perpetrator of the events. The investigation of the case is directed by the investigating court number 4 of Lleida.

The victim was a taxi driver from the city who was on duty on April 10, 2022 when he received at least twenty stab wounds in the back and neck. He was found very badly injured on Sifón Street in the Bordeta neighborhood and transferred by the SEM to the Arnau de Vilanova hospital in Lleida, where he died hours later.
