Protest of electric scooters against the ban on entering public transport

A hundred users of electric scooters and unicycles demonstrated this Saturday in Barcelona to demand that they be able to travel by public transport. The protest began at Sants station and went to the ATM offices, passing through several main roads in the city center. The demonstration has been called by the Association of Users for Personal Mobility of Catalonia, which assures that the veto represents a major mobility problem for people who go to work or study combining these VMPs and public transport.

They proclaim themselves as one of the solutions to sustainable mobility and propose, among other issues, that there be a specific carriage for these vehicles with lithium fire extinguishers, or that it be prohibited from entering public transport with the scooter on or charging it.

The Barcelona Metropolitan Transport Authority (ATM) has decided to extend the veto indefinitely, so these vehicles will not be able to board the metro, train, bus, tram or FGC again.

The entity emphasizes the lack of safety of scooter batteries and asks the competent authorities to accelerate regulation. Initially, the ban was expected to end on October 31, when it was thought that regulations to regulate the access and safety of these vehicles would be finalized.
