Protest against the intention of L'Escala City Council to outsource pool staff

About forty people, workers and users of the L'Escala municipal swimming pool, in Alt Empordà (Girona) protested this Monday in the Town Hall square against the council's desire to outsource half of the employees.

They claim that when the management of the pool became municipal, the City Council assured them that they would be council personnel.

They also complain about the "large labor differences" between workers who occupy the same category.

Sources from the council recognize that the intention is to leave part of the service in the hands of a private company and emphasize that the desire is to improve the conditions of the staff that were subrogated and that in some cases they are worse than the new incorporations.

Half of the fifteen employees will become external and it will be a private company that will take charge, a decision that is not liked by those affected who last June were subrogated by the council when the company that managed equipment decided to leave.

Those affected point out that the workers who will become external are those related to a sporting activity, such as monitors or lifeguards, while those who will continue to be hired by the City Council will be those who carry out administrative or cleaning tasks.
