Pep Sala remembers Carles Sabater with the publication of 'New poems and old promises'

The Catalan rock band Sau—now renamed Sau30—commemorates these days the death of Carles Sabater with the release of the single Nous poemes i velles promeses. The original member of the band, Pep Sala, has explained that he has written this song as a continuation of the now legendary Poemes i promeses, which was very important for them on a personal level. This coming February 13 marks 25 years since Sabater's death and this is the way the band has had to remember him.

Composing the song has served as a spark to continue creating and working, as stated by Sala in the press release published by the band. The new single is a hug to the memory of his partner and all the years lived with him. A rock ballad that continues with the sound to which its followers were accustomed and with several nods to the band's past, with references to songs like Percentatges or Fins at the end.

In addition to composing the song, Sala provided vocals and guitars on the recording. He is accompanied by the new Sau30 band, with Jonathan Argüelles accompanying on vocals, Ramón Altimir on keyboard, Quim Benítez Vilaplana on drums, Pep Sánchez on bass and Josep Lluís Pérez on guitars.

The video clip, directed by Elisabet Terri and produced by José Pozo and David Ortiz, stars the band itself and the actor Guim Puig, who plays Sabater, who pretends to accompany Sala during the construction of the song. According to José Pozo, "the clip not only captures the band performing the song, but also offers an intimate look at Pep Sala's creative process and the memory and longing for him in the figure of Carlos Sabater."

The image that accompanies the single has been created, as in the previous album, by the contemporary artist Domènec Batalla, who has interpreted the song, creating an original work through painting.

Since the return of Sau30 as a new version of the legendary Catalan band, Pep Sala has spoken a lot about what was his friend and partner, although he has made it clear that in this new stage he does not intend to be a replica of the genuine Sau.
