Pablo Motos, denounced by Facua for promoting a "pseudo-miraculous" treatment

This Wednesday, April 3, the news broke that FACUA-Consumers in Action had decided to denounce the presenter of El Hormiguero, Pablo Motos, for promoting through his social networks a pseudo-miraculous treatment of ''cellular regeneration'', which would have "supposed benefits against aging and stress" without a scientific basis, according to the consumer association.

In addition, FACUA claimed that it had sent separate letters to the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030 in which they requested that measures be taken against Pablo Motos and the doctor who accompanies him in the video on his Instagram for the irregularities committed. .

''This is one of the most cutting-edge machines in the world in cell regeneration. Today I was able to try it at @shawellness in Alicante with @drannabaeza. It looks like science fiction. I'll tell you. The sensation is super pleasant,'' wrote the presenter in the description of the video published on March 27.

In the controversial video, you can see ''Dr. Baeza'' explaining how the cold plasma machine at the SHA Wellness clinic works. According to Anna Baeza Román, the machine serves to "fight against aging because it neutralizes free radicals." In addition, it also claims that it helps against stress. ''That current will directly stimulate the vagus nerve. If we stimulate the vagus nerve, we stimulate and balance the sympathetic and parasympathetic system, and we are fighting chronic stress,' she said. Lastly, she notes that the machine converts room air into "cold atmospheric plasma."

For this reason, FACUA has decided to file a complaint against Pablo Motos and Anna Baeza Román before the Ministry of Health for promoting "a treatment with an alleged therapeutic purpose without a scientific basis." A practice that is prohibited according to article 4 of Royal Decree 1907/1996, of August 2, on advertising and commercial promotion of products, activities or services with intended health purposes.

On the other hand, the consumer association also wanted to report the facts to the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030 since the presenter does not include anywhere in the publication that it is advertising. In this way, FACUA wants an investigation to be opened for possible ''covert advertising'' in the event that ''Pablo Motos has received economic compensation''.
