Ovidio Guzmán, transferred to the Mexican prison where his father was detained

In the midst of a strong security device in Mexico City, Ovidio Guzmán, one of the sons of Joaquín "el Chapo" Guzmán and who was arrested at dawn this Thursday in the city of Culiacán, state of Sinaloa, was transferred this late-night to the prison where he was confined and his father escaped.

In a security strategy and in order not to make the information public, due to the case, the Mexican authorities first sent a convoy of eight vehicles that left around 5:30 p.m. (23:30 GMT) from the Specialized Prosecutor for Organized Crime (FEMDO). in the Mexican capital and after 6:00 p.m. (00:15 GMT) a helicopter departed from the same place.

Both cases left FEMDO bound for the Federal Center for Social Readaptation (Cefereso) number 1 Altiplano -also known as the Almoloya prison-, located in the State of Mexico, where his father was detained and from which he escaped in 2015.

On the outskirts of the prison, a security device was also deployed with at least a dozen vehicles from the Mexican Army and the National Guard.

The arrest of Ovidio Guzmán occurred yesterday Thursday and led to various blockades, attacks with bullets and cars set on fire in the city of Culiacán, capital of the state of Sinaloa, in the northwest of the country.

Another of the hot spots was the Culiacán international airport, where armed groups tried to prevent the transfer of Ovidio Guzmán to the Mexican capital, where the Armed Forces finally made him available to the federal Public Ministry to determine his legal status.

Ovidio's arrest has caused chaos for almost the entire day in the city of Culiacán, where violent acts took place, including some 19 blockades with vehicles set on fire and armed attacks, including the Culiacán Airport and the number 10 air base.

In addition, all accesses to Culiacán were closed, four of them from the city of Los Mochis and two more at the exit to Costa Rica, Sinaloa.

It also unleashed a series of violent acts in cities such as Culiacán, Mazatlán and Los Mochis, in addition to canceling school and government activities in the state, and asking the population to stay in their homes to stay safe.

The Sinaloa state authorities reported that as the hours have passed, the 19 blockades, with vehicles set on fire, robberies and looting, have been decreasing in intensity.

The day so far has left 28 injured and 1 National Guard agent dead, along with more than 200 stolen cars and twenty looting of shops. The new operation to capture the son of "Chapo" was surprising because it took place four days before the visit of the US president, Joe Biden, for the Summit of North American Leaders, which will also be attended by the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau. .

The Mexican foreign minister, Marcelo Ebrard, assured that "there is no relationship between the police operation itself and what happened at the Summit" and denied that there was any kind of "exchange" with the United States government.

Ebrard also confirmed that there is an extradition request against Ovidio Guzmán, also known as "El Ratón", which was issued on September 19, 2019, just under a month before Ovidio's first arrest, on September 17. October of that year, during an operation known as "culiacanazo".

Ovidio Guzmán López, together with his brother Joaquín Guzmán López, is accused in the United States on charges of criminal association related to illicit drugs.

According to US authorities, the brothers conspired to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana in the United States from Mexico and other parts of the world from 2008 to 2018.
