One terrorist killed and two police officers injured in suicide attack in Ankara

An attack this Sunday at the door of the Turkish Ministry of the Interior in Ankara has caused an explosion in which at least one of the two alleged terrorists has died, while the other was arrested, the Turkish authorities reported this Sunday.

The explosion, which occurred early this Sunday, near Parliament in the center of Turkey's capital, Ankara, was a "terrorist attack," the Turkish Interior Ministry announced.

"Two terrorists appeared aboard a commercial vehicle around 09:30 (0630 GMT) in front of the entrance door of the General Directorate of Security of our Ministry of the Interior and carried out a bomb attack," he said. This ministry indicated reporting two injuries among the police officers.

"One of the terrorists blew himself up and the other was neutralized. Two of our police officers were slightly injured" by the flames caused by the explosion, the ministry states on X (former Twitter).

The Ministry of the Interior is located right in front of the Turkish Parliament complex, which meets today to inaugurate the new session after the summer recess.

The intervention of the head of state, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is planned, according to Turkish media.

"We will continue the fight without quarter until the last terrorist is neutralized," Yerlikaya added in his message, without attributing responsibility for the attack to any specific group.

Turkish police closed several streets and avenues in central Ankara to traffic and began searching the area thoroughly in search of footprints or explosives. The private television channel NTV reported shootings in the completely cordoned-off neighborhood where numerous police vehicles and ambulances were deployed.
