Nuria Enguita, new artistic director of the museum of contemporary art in Lisbon

The art specialist and former director of the Valencian Institute of Modern Art (IVAM) Nuria Enguita will be the artistic director of the MAC/CCB contemporary art museum in Lisbon (Portugal) from next May.

The announcement was made by the Portuguese art center itself on social networks and comes a few weeks after Enguita resigned as director of the Valencian museum.

Enguita presented his resignation on February 21, alleging that it was "evident" that he did not have the support of the Valencian government after journalistic information about the donation of two rural properties made by the Todolí Citrus foundation, a non-profit entity promoted by the art curator Vicente Todolí, who was part of the jury of the competition that selected her as director.

Enguita has defended from the first moment that these are "malicious attacks against him", while the Generalitat informed the Prosecutor's Office of the facts.

This Wednesday, the MAC/CCB announced that starting in May of this year and for a period of four years, the expert will begin her duties to program the museum and direct the team, which is made up of Rita Lougares (chief curator of Visual Arts) and Mariana Pestana (chief curator of Architecture).

This same morning, the Department of Culture - through the general director of Cultural Heritage, Pilar Tébar - asserted that the IVAM continues to work "normally" after the resignation of Enguita and while the bases are being prepared to elect the next person responsible for management.
