Nine municipalities of Girona host an alternative cultural festival

Nine municipalities in the Girona demarcation will be the setting from today for a new transgressive cultural festival that seeks in each of its activities to connect artists with spaces and audiences. With this idea, a living arts contest was born with a very curious title.

"The people won't like this", driven by different artistic agents and publicly owned cultural facilities from the regions of Girona, will sprinkle proposals between today and June 4 in the cities of Olot, Mieres, Porqueres, Banyoles, Girona, Celrà , Lloret de Mar, La Jonquera and Figueres.

Proposals that combine various disciplines such as theatre, dance, music, visual or audiovisual arts, among others and that, according to its organizers, "want to become a meeting point between audiences and contemporary creation" and "be a space capable of to generate new forms of relationship between spectators and contemporary practices that dialogue with the context”.

An appointment in which the public will have a very varied role: they will learn, for example, how to repair their electronic devices, to reflect on the relationship they have with everyday or inert objects and they will even be able to help create a dance.

In total there are eleven shows that make up this zero edition of a competition, which has the support of the Generalitat, the Diputació de Girona and the Regional Council of Alt Empordà, as well as other cultural agents such as Bòlit, the Center of Contemporary Art of Girona; the Canal, Center for the creation of performing arts in Salt and L'Animal a l'Esquena de Celrà.

The festival kicks off today at the Teatre Principal in Olot with the stage proposal by the Montse Isla company, 'Where the forest begins, the town ends', which invites the viewer to observe the scene as if it were a landscape and to look at that landscape as if it were It would be a picture, a scrap of reality.

A day later, on Friday it will be the turn of the Barcelona Restarters Association, a group that wants to promote alternatives to program obsolescence and thus extend the life of electronic devices. At the Porqueres Civic Center, between 4 and 7 p.m., a group of volunteers with technical skills will help attendees to repair the mobile or printer that no longer works.

That same day, the Nyamnyam company, founded in 2012 and whose shows have crossed borders (Portugal, France, Italy, Switzerland, the United States, Mexico, Colombia...) will make attendees reflect on their relationship with everyday objects or those materials considered inert. A show that can be seen at the Factoria d'Arts Escèniques de Banyoles.

On Saturday June 3, from the Santa Susanna square in Girona, the Brazilian choreographer, dancer and researcher Volmir Cordeiro and the musician Washington Timbo will perform in the Santa Susanna square in Girona. The result will be a show "that feeds on the street" and that plays with sound, body and gesture "to create a dance made from the context" and to the rhythm of the drum.

The Atzucac company will offer a stage show in Lloret de Mar that will make people reflect on spirituality from an atheist or agnostic perspective. The creators will address with a critical and ironic point of view why there are people who do not identify with any religion, but nevertheless project their faith in destiny, revere characters or do not want to go under a ladder.

In La Jonquera, the scenic proposal created by Maria Camila Sanjinés and Manel Quitnana (Artistas Salsichas) will take the viewer to the bunker area of ​​Els Querols on June 4, so it is essential to wear comfortable shoes. And the festival will close with the comic monologue that the 'Noche cannon' would offer at the Teatre Municipal el Jardí de Figueres.
