Colau warns that housing cannot be left in the hands of the socialists

Reaching the decisive moment of the campaign, the commons focus their efforts on conveying two messages: establishing themselves as the guarantors of the right to housing and attacking the PSC to distinguish themselves as the useful vote for there to be a left-wing Government beyond the label, with truly progressive policies. And this Monday it was the former mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, who was in charge of conveying these ideas. Former PAH activist and now in conflict with the PSC in Barcelona, she was comfortable in her task.

Colau recalled that in Catalonia and Spain “their homework was not done” regarding housing for years. But according to her, progress began in Barcelona and Spain with the political space of the commons present in both governments. She evoked policies such as the regulation of tourist housing and rentals as examples to argue her position. “How are we not going to do it in the Generalitat?” asked Colau, who recalled that any Government with Comunes Sumar within it must have housing as a priority.

In this sense, the candidate, Jéssica Albiach, already warned on Sunday that precisely housing will be a sine qua non condition for reaching an agreement with them.

Colau continued attacking the PSC, a party with which they want to agree in the Generalitat but they say no at any price. “Not only laws are needed. Governments must believe them. Salvador Illa cannot guarantee it, he has never faced the lobbies,” he said. And then it was the turn of his former partner at Barcelona City Council, Jaume Collboni. “They are slowing down many of the regulatory policies that we promote,” criticized Colau.

The commons brought together mayors and former mayors in an event. “We can no longer support more flights through our city as proposed by ERC,” warned the former mayor of Castelldefels, Candela López, who served as host to nearly a hundred people in a civic center. Her party is open to studying this possibility, but only at specific times and never in a structural way. “We want a productive model, not an extractive casino model,” said the former mayor of Altafulla, Fèlix Alonso, in reference to Hard Rock. “Our proposals are policies that we have already made possible in the municipalities,” added the number two of Comunes Sumar and mayor of El Prat, Lluís Mijoler.

In the morning, in Rubí, the community members focused on another aspect, mental health. They promised “at least” a psychologist in all primary care centers and schools. Also that young people and older people can access the psychological care service without an appointment in emergency situations.
