The State Department said yesterday that Secretary of State Antony Blinken had informed Congress that he has approved a second emergency package, a $147.5 million sale of equipment, including fuses, chargers and primers, which They are needed to power the 155mm shells that Israel has already purchased.
“The United States is committed to Israel's security, and it is vital to American national interests to ensure that Israel is able to defend itself against the threats it faces,” the department said.
Blinken made a similar decision on December 9, approving the sale to Israel of nearly 14,000 rounds of tank ammunition. Both moves come as President Joe Biden's request for a nearly $106 billion aid package for Ukraine, Israel and other national security needs remains stalled in Congress, caught in a debate over immigration policy and United States border security.
