More information, opinion and space for readers on the new digital cover

A (another) war breaks out or a Government and an amnesty are negotiated and our readers demand information and analysis. We look for the last hour but also the context, its why, the keys to the following scenarios, the testimony of its protagonists. In text and in photos; in video and infographics. In opinion columns and visual displays. The newspaper's website, the main gateway for our readers, is a challenge every minute where the extraordinary potential of the La Vanguardia editorial team is reflected. Starting this week, the new digital design – in computer version and in mobile and app – allows us to show the content most valued by our most loyal readers in a more organized and attractive way and interact with them continuously.

The cover is one, but with as many faces as current events demand. The journalists responsible for the digital cover now have a new catalog of designs to present the main news items of the day. This range of possibilities allows us to more prominently display the images that mark the day, the analysis articles parallel to the information and give more weight to the content most valued by our readers and especially by our subscribers.

These have been the focuses on which, in recent months, a transversal team from La Vanguardia has prepared this new letter of presentation of the editorial team's work. Among the new features, in addition to the design, stands out the incorporation into the digital edition of spaces that are already paper classics such as La Mirilla or the Traffic Lights (red and green) for the protagonists of the day. There is also a much greater focus on well-being reports, cultural prescriptions and trends, and the participation content of our readers, podcasts and video reports are promoted.

The main informative commitment of the cover is designed thinking not only about the weight of the headlines but also about the audiovisual content. For weeks, coverage of the conflict between Israel and Hamas has been the most consulted and valued content on the web every day by our subscribers. And it serves as an example: the challenge is for the reader to appreciate at a glance that the information on the ground from our special envoys is accompanied by a complete parallel offer to deepen the coverage of the conflict, its causes and repercussions through infographics, videos, explanatory topics...

Along with the main theme, in the first part of the web cover current affairs and the stakes of social, political, economic, cultural and sporting issues coexist. New spaces with more visual weight reinforce the presentation of reports that generate great debate among our readers. In addition, it increases the visibility of the sections with high stakes each day on the front page.

There is a new design for La Contra interviews, with a vertical image in the Vanguardia Selección section. One of the most appreciated spaces in the paper edition (many readers confess that they start reading us from the interview at the end of the printed newspaper) is one of the favorite contents on the web every day. Readers and subscribers are our guide and are also the protagonists of the website, with their own and more visible space. We offer a list with the topics most read by subscribers, with which it is intended that the regular reader can recover a featured article that has been lost, and another with the latest news.

The new design of the website seeks to enhance the deployment of the most relevant news coverage, with interaction with our readers and keep this relationship alive every minute, 365 days a year.
