Òmnium urges the independence movement to "recover the shared strategy" and overcome the "paralysis"

Within the framework of its ordinary general assembly, Òmnium Cultural has urged all the actors of the independence movement this Saturday to "recover the shared strategy", in the words of the president of the sovereign entity, Xavier Antich, who has also revealed that they work the hand of the main youth, union, business and social organizations of Catalonia to share "analysis and diagnosis" in the face of a situation of "paralysis" and "blockade" in the ranks of pro-sovereignties. "The parties and institutions also have to do the work that corresponds to them and recover the shared strategy," said Antich during his speech before the members of the entity.

To do this, he has appealed to the "maturity, responsibility and generosity of everyone". "Only a shared strategy will allow the construction and activation of political, institutional and civic-social hegemony that will put the horizon of freedom that the country demands back on the table," she asserted.

At the event, held at the Museu Marítim de Barcelona, Antich recalled that a year ago they had already opted to "create new complicities and open a new political cycle to overcome the phase of paralysis and stagnation of the independence movement". Those were his first words as leader of the entity. In his speech today, he again bet on "reactivating and structuring" the independence movement to leave behind "blockade and paralysis" and has once again called for the opening of a new cycle "that allows us to work, effectively, for the freedom of the country". "We will continue working for the civil unity of the great social consensus for self-determination and to materialize it politically", asserted the president of Òmnium, who took over the reins of the entity after the resignation of Jordi Cuixart.

These affirmations come the same week that the monocolor Government of Esquerra Republicana has sealed a budget pact with the PSC –it closed another with En Comú Podem before Christmas–, which is why the other great pro-independence formation, Junts per Catalunya, has spoken of "cycle change" and "turning point". Some expressions that the socialists have also used when dealing with the first pact between actors of the two blocks of the process in an important measure such as the budgets, the most important law that any government approves.

However, the division comes from before and in recent years it has been manifesting itself with increasing intensity. In this context, Òmnium has opted to build bridges and try to redirect the situation, between the parties but also with the rest of the entities.

In the field of sovereign entities, the situation is not very different and in the Catalan National Assembly (ANC) they are debating whether they should create a fourth independence force, the so-called civic list. For now, the management, with an obvious division, has not started the matter, but the affiliates of the entity did support it broadly in the last assembly of the organization. It remains to be seen how all of this will play out. In parallel, on Thursday the ANC called for bringing together all the associations and actors in favor of the unilateral path to achieve independence. The issue will be addressed and debated at a large event at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya on March 11 and 12, a conference that was already announced on the fifth anniversary of the referendum on October 1, a few months ago.
