Mazón undertakes to accelerate the works of the Júcar-Vinalopó transfer

The Generalitat Valenciana has opened the bidding phase for section 2 of the Júcar-Vinalopó post-transfer, to save time so that its execution is carried out in parallel to phase 1, which is already underway. The Valencian government thus intends to shorten the deadlines for the benefit of the irrigators of Monóvar, Novelda, Monforte, Agost, Sant Vicent del Raspeig, Alicante and Elx.

To this end, it is planned that during this year 2024 a third of the 22 million of this work can be invested. This was explained yesterday by President Carlos Mazón during his visit to the Toscar reservoir, which is finalizing preparations to receive the water from the Júcar, which will be distributed from this point towards Pinoso on one side and towards Agost and the rest of the Vinalopó basin. for the other.

The head of the Consell announced that between 16 and 17 million euros of this essential work could be carried out this year. He did so after holding a meeting in Monóvar with mayors, irrigators, and representatives of Alicante water in the Central Board of Vinalopó Users. Mazón assured that from now on every day will be “historic” in the development of the Júcar-Vinalopó transfer, after many years of “shameful waiting” for the implementation of this water infrastructure.

The president explained that the execution of the transfer “is already going to be a reality,” but there is still “a long way to go.” During 2024, close to 20 million euros will be invested in execution, not in the budget. “This is no longer a budget, here we are already executing,” he stated.

He thanked the previous planning and project work that has been done in recent months and declared that "the pace of work, management and execution has finally begun in Vinalopó" remedying the "abandonment and loss of rights that could no longer be tolerate more.” “This unacceptable delay has not come for free to many people we want to work with and want to talk to,” said Mazón and invited them to “recover a culture of quality agriculture, at a reasonable and sustainable price, which is what Vinalopó needs.”

However, the visit and the words of Carlos Mazón did not take long to find a response in the ranks of the PSPV, which demanded that the president of the Generalitat “stop using water to try to obtain political gain and to bet on a common front away from partisanship”: “All the works he is presenting are from the Ximo Puig government.”

It was the Water spokesperson of the PSPV-PSOE in Les Corts, David López, who stated that “Mazón and the leaders of the PP, before making statements about the Júcar Vinalopó Transfer, would have to remember and remember their history”: “It was with their government when irrigators and farmers were left without water, while with the socialist governments we have reached a historic agreement that will make it possible to receive 18.8 cubic hectometers.”

López lamented that “the water management proposed by Mazón reminds us of the years of corruption of the PP when the water from Júcar-Vinalopó was not for agriculture, but for building urbanizations and speculation” and added that “unfortunately the PP does not like to do “water politics, he likes to do politics with water”

The socialist deputy highlighted that "in the last 8 years, socialists have opted for a sustainable model of resource management that guarantees progress for everyone and in contrast to that we see the PP model that only seeks to exhaust resources and benefit a few."
