Marta Lois, spokesman for Sumar in Congress, designated candidate for the Xunta de Galicia

Marta Lois, spokesperson in Congress and representative for A Coruña, will be Sumar's candidate for the presidency of the Xunta de Galicia. This has been officially ratified today by Vice President Yolanda Díaz, after the early elections for February 18 announced by the Galician president, Alfonso Rueda, have forced the parties to decide their candidates and quickly outline their possible alliances. . Lois, a person of Díaz's utmost confidence, thus embarks on the path to try to achieve representation in the Galician chamber, where they currently do not have seats.

The search for the candidate has been precipitated both by the aforementioned electoral advance announcement, and by the refusals of Teresa Táboas, who was a bipartisan councilor (PSG-BNG), and Martiño Noriega, who was mayor of Santiago de Compostela, to lead Sumar's proposal. Faced with this situation, Díaz has returned to the first option with his commitment to Lois, although the departure of Podemos towards the Mixed group had complicated the scenario in Congress. Marta Lois is her trusted person in the lower house, and she will combine her candidacy in Galicia with her seat while waiting to know what happens on 18-F.

During the presentation of the candidate, the promoter of Sumar Galicia announced a pre-agreement with Podemos and Izquierda Unida to attend the elections, an agreement that must be ratified by these two formations.

Lois (Vigo, 1969) has a doctorate in Political Science and professor at the University of Santiago, and has extensive experience in the field of municipal politics. She was Councilor for Equality, Economic Development and Tourism in Santiago de Compostela, with Mayor Martiño Noriega. She also served as spokesperson for the group. Her relationship with Yolanda Díaz dates back to her college years.

Lois's option as a candidate will require redrawing the group in Congress if she obtains her certificate in the Galician Parliament. A complex redesign since Sumar does not want to grant new deputies to Podemos if the list runs. If this scenario occurs, it is most likely that Manuel Lago, Díaz's advisor at the Ministry of Labor, will have to assume the role of Lois.

With the call for next February 18, the negotiation to run alongside Izquierda Unida in the Galician elections is advancing.
