Marijuana plantation dismantled in a protected house with dangerous dogs

Mossos d'Esquadra agents from the Investigation Unit of the Vilafranca del Penedès police station (Alt Penedès) have arrested three men for crimes against public health, electricity fraud and falsification of public documents. The police operation has served to dismantle a marijuana plantation in a house in Gelida that its residents protected with three dogs of a potentially dangerous breed.

In January of this year, these dogs attacked a person who was walking through Corbera de Llobregat, in an area very close to the Safari de Gelida urbanization where the marijuana plantation was located. The dogs caused several injuries to the victim of the attack. According to Mossos d'Esquadra sources consulted by La Vanguardia, the injuries were "important."

The dogs were able to be located by the agents who “diligently” went to the scene and were able to locate the owners of the dogs. The Mossos d'Esquadra verified that they were also the tenants of the house investigated.

The agents carried out the entry and search of the home under judicial protection on February 8, locating 483 marijuana plants, as well as tools and devices necessary for the cultivation of these plants. They also arrested a man who was guarding the plantation.

The investigation began at the end of November 2023, when the agents received information about a possible marijuana plantation in a house in the Safari de Gelida urbanization. As a result of this information, agents from the Citizen Security Unit of the San Sadurní de Anoia police station were able to carry out checks and detected a strong smell of marijuana, as well as several air conditioners and other signs that indicated the presence of a possible plantation.

Subsequently, as a result of the investigation, the agents found out that the two tenants had rented the house to another person using false documentation. Likewise, the electricity company technicians confirmed that the consumption of this home was very high, "incompatible with domestic consumption", as well as the existence of a clandestine installation.

A 52-year-old man was arrested on February 8 in the plantation, and two men aged 37 and 33 on February 28 in the capital of Alt Penedès, who were handed over to the Vilafranca del Penedès guard court.
