Maria Jaume: change achieved (★★★)

Maria James ★★★

Place and date: Apollo (IV/10/2024)

The success of the album Nostàlgia Airlines, by the Mallorcan Maria Jaume, a month old, was reflected in the presentation concert, scheduled first at 2 Apolo and which in the end almost filled the large room. Something that, as she said, a year ago she couldn't even dream of. It has been possible thanks to a successful transformation that has taken her from the terrain of folk-pop singer-songwriters, explored in Voltes y voltes and Fins a maig no revisc, to an electronic pop that connects with the latest trends.

We already sensed, after Maria Jaume's first contacts with her countryman Lluís Cabot (ex Da Souza), what a joint album could lead to. And the time has come. Cabot has become the determining producer of the album and his right-hand man live, on bass, acoustic guitar, electronics and backing vocals. They are supported by Joan Vallbona (electric guitar), Lídia Facerias (keyboards) and Joan Torné (drums).

Although from the initial It is coret, in a bucolic downtempo key, the concert does not finish starting.

The nostalgia of a disappeared Mallorca, reflected in Cala Rajada 1964, with a sample of Bonet de San Pedro, is linked to Hotels, sun and beach, a very catchy song benefited by the collaboration of Pau Debon. The rescues of 2008 and the ballad Com te n'has anat? They represent a new impasse before entering the most notable phase of the concert, when they demonstrate their expertise in recycling Afrobeats in Ressaca a sa platja and Super mala pinta, with the notable intervention of Clara Vinyals.

His new electronic pop continues to sound superlative in Ella semper crema, in the synthetic Pura Geography and in his nod to reggaeton, with the celebrated Trista a Miami, which could not count on Julieta. From there they went on to the techno rush of Ni Picassos ni Dalís and a healthy dance riot that would culminate in the last encore, in a rave style, with Mala via, demonstrating that they have known how to adapt without complexes to the new times.
