Manchester City breaks the Premier's income record in the 22-23 season

The 2022-23 season was not only a success for Manchester City on the field of play (champions of the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Champions League), but also off it. The club announced this Wednesday that last season brought it income of 712.8 million pounds until June 2023. Which means profits of 80.4 million: almost double the record of the previous campaign, according to the report published by the English entity.

Pep Guardiola's team grew in all its sources of income, with commercial income being the ones that gave it the greatest benefit, amounting to 341.4 million pounds. Earnings from matchdays grew by 32%, as did broadcasting earnings compared to the previous 12 months (20.2%), thanks especially to the triplet achieved which in turn has provided bonuses for its players.

The sporting achievements caused the number of spectators to increase at the Etihad Stadium, especially as more home games were played due to advancing rounds in European competition. As a result, ticket and merchandise sales increased. The average attendance at the English fiefdom was 53,249 fans in 19 Premier League games.

Profits from player exchanges also influence City's accounts with 121.7 million pounds generated: Sterling (56.2 million euros), Gabriel Jesús (52.2.) and Zinchenko were the main supporters of this type of sales income, according to Transfermarkt, a website specialized in the football transfer market.

"In the 2022-23 season, Manchester City reached new heights and set new benchmarks. In short, last season Manchester City achieved the best football and business year in its history," says City president Khaldoon Al Mubarak, in City's statement.

The club also took top spot in the 2023 Brand Finance Football 50 report with a value of £1.510 billion, overtaking Real Madrid. The white club registered a mark of 1,460 million. Barça was third (1,370 billion) and Manchester United, fourth (1,360 million). The English had not obtained this record since 2018.

Likewise, those from Manchester topped the Deloitte Football Money League for the second year in a row with the highest earnings of any European football club. "With certainty we can say that the 2022-23 season was the best in the history of Manchester City," in the words of Ferran Soriano, City CEO.

The Premier League accused Manchester City in early 2023 of breaching more than 100 financial fair play rules that required the club to provide "a true and fair view of the club's financial position," according to the English league's statement issued on February 2.

The English club responded to the letter with the following message: "In February 2023, in response to the charges, the Club issued a public statement in which it welcomes the review of this matter by an independent commission, to impartially consider the full body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of his position.
