Madrid launches a virtual assistant based on artificial intelligence for tourists

The city of Madrid has launched a new communication channel with its visitors through VisitMadridGPT, a virtual assistant based on artificial intelligence (AI) created by the City Council to inspire tourists and recommend personalized plans.

The Councilor for Tourism, Almudena Maíllo, has presented this technological tool that interacts with travelers by answering their questions about the Madrid destination during their stay or in moments prior to their visit to the city, the City Council reported in a statement.

VisitMadridGPT creates recommendations and personalized plans using the capital's official tourism portal, esMADRID.com, as the only source of information.

This website has a database with tourist resources and an agenda of city events, as well as thematic content to discover its different facets.

"It is a tool that integrates artificial intelligence to offer visitors recommendations for the Madrid destination, as well as proposals for visiting the city. The implementation of this tool is part of the development of the digital transformation axis of the Strategic Plan of Tourism of the capital," said the delegate councilor for tourism, Almudena Maíllo.

With it, we want to integrate this technological innovation into a project that allows us to deepen and advance the interaction and knowledge of the travelers that the capital receives, explained Maíllo.

This assistant only offers promotional content, being able to propose routes through the city and detail their different points of interest and make suggestions about museums, cultural centers, monuments and essential sites, restaurants or natural spaces, among other attractions.

The information it provides is personalized, and is also adapted for people with physical disabilities or any eating condition or tendency.

As a result of their questions about the capital, the visitor obtains a series of recommendations adapted to their profile that will help them plan the trip and get the most out of their stay in the city.

"Due to its characteristics, the tool is also a resource of interest for professionals in the tourism sector, who can use it to design and improve the proposals they present to their clients," added the Councilor for Tourism.

Available from different devices through the VisitMadridGPT.com website, this free service is operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The instant responses it offers can be generated in up to 95 languages, from Spanish, English or French to Japanese, Chinese, Cantonese or Hindi.

VisitMadridGPT allows you to send the conversation to email at any time during the consultation. Information that becomes a small local guide to Madrid personalized with the preferences and the chosen language and that is always accessible to the user.

The implementation of this tool will allow obtaining information about the traveler's demands and concerns when choosing or enjoying the city thanks to the questions asked and the conversations generated.

These data will be analyzed by the Delegated Area of Tourism to continue articulating specific promotional campaigns and strategies, detecting new market niches and offering more tailored experiences from the rest of the municipal tourist information services and channels.
