Luis Medina and José María Aristrain debut on the list of defaulters with the Treasury

The Tax Agency has published today the ninth list of defaulters, which includes debtors who accumulated a debt of more than 600,000 euros at the end of 2021. Among the well-known faces and personalities who make their debut in the ranking, commission agent Luis Medina stands out, investigated for allegedly scam the Madrid City Council in the purchase of masks during the pandemic, and the Basque businessman José María Aristrain, one of the largest fortunes in the country.

The commission agent accumulates a debt with the treasury of 653,000 euros, while the Basque steel company owes 1.26 million euros. Together with these two taxpayers, another 7,035 debtors appear on the list. In total, the number of large debtors with the Treasury has decreased by 3.3% compared to the previous update.

On the other hand, Rodrigo Rato, who was vice president of the Government of José María Aznar, former president of Bankia and former director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), is once again included in the list, with 1.39 million euros; businessman Agapito García Sánchez, with 15 million euros; the soccer player Dani Alves (2.08 million), the presenter Patricia Conde (1.04 million), or the actress Paz Vega (3 million).

They also include the writer Ildefonso Falcones, who increases his debt to 1.7 million euros; the former partner of Iñaki Urdangarin, Diego Torres, with just over 956,000 euros; the former soccer player Samuel Eto'o (981,000 euros), the chef Sergi Arola (985,000 euros) or the talk show host Kiko Matamoros (713,000 euros). Likewise, the maximum debtors with the treasury are the brothers Ramón and Agustín Olivares Garrigos, who each owe the same figure, 36.8 million.

And while some enter the ranking, others leave. This is the case of the coach of Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti, who accumulated a debt of 1.4 million euros in the previous publication; the Nozar real estate company, which owed 214.88 million euros, and Twitter, whose indebtedness reached 800,000 euros. The City Hall of San Fernando or Lleida Basquet also leave.

Among the large debtors with the treasury there are also sports clubs such as the Lleida Esportiu Terraferma Club Fútbol, which owes 1.69 million; Real Murcia CF, with 10.1 million; the Hercules, with 2.39 million; and Xerez Club Deportivo, which owes 8.7 million euros. Also noteworthy is the United Left of the Community of Madrid, which increases its debt to 939,637 euros.

The list is made up mostly of legal entities, which are 5,650 compared to 1,387 individuals. Among the companies that owe, Reyal Urbis stands out, repeating itself as the company that owes the most money to the Treasury, with 310 million euros, far exceeding companies such as Marillion, with 123.5 million, or Vittone 1842, with 111 million. Among the companies that make the list, Palemad Reciclaje stands out, with a debt of 127.6 million. In addition, the company Tesedul SA, used by the former treasurer of the PP, Luis Bárcenas, to resort to the tax amnesty continues to appear with a debt of 1.3 million.

The list of delinquent Treasury is abandoned in cases in which debtors reduce their debt below 600,000 euros. Other assumptions are cancellations due to collection, prescription of debts or having been declared insolvent.

According to the Tax Agency, the global amount of debts included in the latest list of large defaulters reaches 17,710 million euros, 2.9% less than in the previous publication. However, the amount is reduced to 14,567 million euros once duplications have been subtracted, since there are amounts corresponding to main debtors and their jointly and severally liable parties.
