‘L’inesperat’, the motto of FiraTàrrega that once again enhances the surprise effect

"Last year the unexpected was lost and this year we return to normality, filling the streets with shows and people, where an artist or a show will surprise us." With these words, the mayor of Tàrrega and president of the board of directors of FiraTàrrega has welcomed the presentation to the media of the 2022 edition of the theater fair.

Thus, L'inesperat has become this year's motto, with the aim of recovering street arts, itinerant shows and the surprise effect, a hallmark of the fair in the capital of Urgell, forged throughout four decades and that the pandemic has disrupted these latest editions, “where everything was planned and scheduled, with no possible surprise effect.”

FiraTàrrega 2022 will be held from September 8 to 11 with 62 artistic proposals, 17 of which come from the Territori Creatiu nursery. 55% of the programming will be shows that will premiere at the fair, with Catalan companies, from the rest of the State and a dozen international shows, from Germany, Belgium, France, Hungary, Ireland, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom or Chile.

Among the outstanding proposals is Lali Álvarez with The unfinished human manifesto, with the active participation of the young people of Tàrrega, who will write the first 20 points of the manifesto and will continue to complete it with other participants. Roger Bernat/FFF will present Dormifestació, a collective sleep “to claim the right to be unproductive and share dreams”.

The Dutchman Johannes Bellinkx, with Reverse, will make the viewer walk backwards to experience a new dimension. The French Compagnie Dyptik will dance with Mirage. And Led Silhouette and Marcos Morau (La Veronal) will explore alterity with the dance of Los Perros.

Regarding the proposals that require an active public and with unique spaces that take voice, the programming includes S.O.S., by Ada Vilaró; Talk to the plants to reach a landscape, by Artistas Sausages; We are (T)Here, by Aurora Bauzà

Strolling street shows include Sophie Borthwick and Pierre Pilatte's duet with Tales of No(oo)one, and Grus-Grus company Petricor.

And among the surprise productions, Drift, by David Samló, Toc!, by Sauf le Dimanche, or Super frau, by the Baal company.

Among many other shows, digital language and technology are also addressed with Insectotròpics, by Orpheus, and Onírica Mecánica, by Jesús Nieto.

The artistic director of FiraTàrrega, Anna Giribet, assures that "a brave, forceful, parity and plural program" has been prepared, which wants to reach everyone, and that is why proposals of all kinds are brought together, "from the most contemporary to the most popular, because everyone is welcome”.

It has also announced the creation of a platform for professional contacts, which maintains the relationship between attendees throughout the year. Giribet defined it as “a tool, which will be a kind of Tinder for the performing arts, for programmers and creators to find their match; we are a market and we want to be effective”.

The fair has a directory of 1,400 professionals, 850 entities and 326 published projects, and the budget for the 2022 edition is 1.2 million euros.
