La Seu d'Urgell accelerates the tender for the works and the draft of the residence for the elderly

The new government team of the Seu d'Urgell City Council wants to quickly carry out the residence project for the elderly, taking into account that the State executive has committed an item of 3 million euros in the budgets for this 2023. This translates, according to the mayor Joan Barrera, in that it is necessary to put out the works to tender before the end of the year, with a preliminary project done and the agreements signed with the Generalitat.

Despite the fact that the deadline is "very tight", Barrera defends that it is possible to arrive on time to move forward with the long-claimed equipment. On the other hand, they want to rethink whether the old Valira campsite is the best option to develop an industrial area and are committed to having a public housing stock.

Barrera assures that governing in a minority "does not mean governing alone" and that the objective is to reach a consensus with the rest of the groups on the large city projects that are already underway, such as the construction of the new INEFC-Pirineus building, the hospital district and the technological hub. Regarding other aspects, he expects to have natural agreements with some of the forces represented in the consistory.

Among the first areas where they want to act, is cleanliness and security, apart from the intention of bringing more administration closer to the public and facilitating bureaucratic procedures. In terms of housing, the new mayor sees as a milestone being able to have one hundred flats to offer them to young people and vulnerable families and he also wants the Horta del Valira area to be developed to favor new housing constructions. In the cultural field, they also want to find the best location to open a municipal auditorium theater.

Regarding the organization of the municipal government, it has been done through three large areas: Urbanism and Environment; Finance and Economic Promotion; and Culture, Education and Social Action. The objective is that each of these is coordinated by a deputy mayor and that the group of councilors depend on them.
