La Paloma festivities start in Madrid with greater security than other years

Up to 150 municipal police officers make up the security device at the festivities in honor of La Paloma, which start this Friday and will last until Tuesday, the Madrid City Council has reported in a statement.

The number of agents deployed will be slightly higher than in the previous festivities, that of San Cayetano and that of San Lorenzo, with 130 police officers and in which there has been "no notable incident." The City Council has justified this increase in troops "given the greater scope of the event and the forecast of a larger audience," reports EP.

The device is made up of agents from the Centro Sur Integral District Police Station (CID), "they will try to guarantee normality and security in the development of the festivities", with the reinforcement of troops from other police stations, as well as police from the Central Security Police Station and the Nightlife Service and agents of the Air Support Section with their drones, among others.

In addition to the uniformed police officers, plainclothes municipal agents will be deployed to prevent illegal street vending and robberies and thefts.

The festivities will have a fairground, which will cover the surroundings of Las Vistillas and the Plaza de la Paja, a place where stages will be set up. "The enclosure will extend to Carrera de San Francisco and Gran Vía de San Francisco and its surrounding streets, an area where the installation of bars will be allowed," the City Council has reported.

Samur-Civil Protection will deploy a device "broader with respect to the previous festivities in the Centro district", it has announced in the Consistory.

Thus, during the afternoons and nights, two Basic Life Support Units (one in Las Vistillas and another in the Plaza del Humilladero) and a First Response Unit (in Las Vistillas) will remain stationary in the area. In addition, for the 15th the presence will be reinforced both in the mass and in the procession.
