In Mollet del Vallès there is the Joan Abelló Museum, as well as the House of the Painter Abelló, which we have visited in La Vanguardia's Readers' Photos. This artist (Mollet del Vallès, 1922-Barcelona, 2008) was a painter his entire life and, at the same time, he was an art collector.

Its collection is distributed between the two museum buildings and the house. Thanks to his friendship with other artists, he came to have a set of works of art that today are the expression and sample of a specific era.

The museum has three floors and a basement. In addition to the permanent collection, where there are works by Abelló and other artists, temporary exhibitions are held.

As for the House of the Painter, where he was born, the space shows more of his collector's side. Among the outstanding works are pieces by sculptors such as Manolo Hugué, Josep Clarà or Enric Casanovas. Among the paintings, those of Joaquim Mir, Ricardo Opisso or Ramon Casas stand out, among others.

Joan Abelló's work is basically pictorial, but it also has sculptures. The painting is characterized by the thickness of the material in each brushstroke. He himself defined his art as explosiveness.

It is a figurative work, much of it landscape, containing a wide range of bright colors. Some of his sculptures, such as the Harlequí, are found in the outdoor space of Mollet del Vallès.
