Iran detains Iranian documentarian Mozhgan Ilanlu again

Feminist documentary filmmaker Mozhgan Ilanlu was detained by Iranian security forces and transferred to a Tehran prison, months after being acquitted of her sentence for publishing photos without the Islamic veil, according to Iranian media. The arrest of the filmmaker and feminist activist occurred less than a month after the anniversary of the death of Mahsa Amini at the hands of the Iranian authorities last September.

According to the reform-minded Shargh newspaper, "Feminist activist and documentary filmmaker Mozhgan Ilanlu was again arrested and transferred to Evin prison on Sunday." So far, neither Shargh nor other Iranian media have confirmed the reasons for the documentary filmmaker's arrest. Ilanlu was detained last October after the publication of photos on social networks where women appeared on the streets of Tehran without the mandatory veil.According to local sources, through the images, the documentary filmmaker incited thousands of citizens to participate in the protests.

In January, the publication caused the authorities to sentence her to a sentence of almost ten years, 74 lashes, a fine of 80 million rials (200 euros), and a ban on leaving the country and joining propaganda organizations for two years. years. However, the documentary filmmaker was released in February, as part of an agreement by the country's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, who ordered the release of 22,000 people detained for her participation in the protests.

According to the Human Rights Watch organization, in recent days there have been multiple arrests of activists and the presence of Iranian security forces has increased less than a month after the anniversary of Amini's death, the event that sparked the protests. The death of the 21-year-old sparked a wave of strong protests aimed at deposing the Islamic Republic. However, the protests died down after the strong repression of the regime.

The citizen protests caused more than 500 deaths, thousands of people arrested, and the execution of seven demonstrators, one of them in public. Consequently, hundreds of women have stopped wearing the mandatory Islamic headscarf as a gesture of civil disobedience and a reminder of the protests. However, security forces have imposed more control on the mandatory wearing of the headscarf in Iran.
