Ikea announces 1,500 contracts in Spain in the next two years

Ikea will generate 1,500 new jobs in Spain in the next two years. It will be "the largest recruitment campaign in its history", within the framework of the opening of 90 new points of contact with the client -from urban stores to collection centers-, as announced this Thursday in a statement.

The workforce will grow by 15%, from the 9,765 employees it currently has in Spain, bringing the total to 11,230 people by 2024. "The company plans to continue advancing in its omnichannel expansion plan, with a clear commitment to formats more diverse and accessible to be closer to the consumer in a much more specialized way", it is exposed.

One in five contracts will be in Catalonia (22% of the total), with 340 new positions. Madrid, Andalusia and Levante will be other areas where more employment is created. They will be given in the various formats with which it operates: urban stores, design and planning centers, collection points...

The announcement of the contracts accompanies the figures for the last financial year. In it, the company has sold for 1,820 million euros, 8.2% more than in the previous year, "so it continues to consolidate a solid business in our country." Online business accounts for 22% of revenue, with 406 million euros, above the previous 392 million.

From the company the year is valued as positive "in moments of challenge and uncertainty", according to Nurettin Acar, CEO of Ikea in Spain. "The outbreak of the war in Ukraine, interruptions in the logistics chain or supply difficulties have brought us great challenges. We have managed to learn and develop new capabilities and strengthen ourselves even more in this situation," adds the manager.

All regional markets grow, it is assured, with Catalonia (19% and 417.2 million euros) among the most outstanding.

On a global level, the Ingka Group group grew by 5.6%, to 39,500 million euros invoiced. "The last year has tested us like never before, as a business, as leaders and as people. And we were up to the challenge," said Jesper Brodin, CEO of the Swedish giant.
