In Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia we can contemplate the phenomenon of the shadow of Teide in the sky, at sunset, seen from the patio of my house in Arafo, Tenerife.
I have only been able to see this shadow on a few occasions at sunset and it does not usually last more than a quarter of an hour.
Arafo is located to the east of Tenerife. When I took this photograph on March 10, there was a bit of a haze, as can be seen in the snapshot.
The dust from the Sahara that has remained suspended in the air also affects the color of the sky that we perceive. And it is that the sunlight that reaches us finds many more particles than normal in its path. This is how, with the haze, higher wavelengths are scattered and the sky is seen orange.
The Teide volcano rises to 3,715 meters above sea level1 and 7,500 meters above the ocean floor. It is the highest peak in Spain and the third largest volcano on Earth after Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, both in Hawaii.
