Girona will schedule street activities to energize commercial hubs

Girona City Council wants to plan outdoor activities to boost commercial hubs in different neighborhoods.

The vice mayor of Girona, Gemma Geis, has assured that this Christmas concerts, poetry readings and other shows have been scheduled in the middle of the street, proposals that "have never been done before" in Girona but that have given good results.

Geis positively values the results of these activities because they have managed to transmit a "good atmosphere" to the city streets. Furthermore, Geis believes that it is a way to "bring culture closer to all audiences." The vice mayor and head of the Economic Promotion area claims to be in the process of "rethinking" many of the actions.

This Christmas, the Economic Promotion area of Girona has begun to schedule concerts on public roads and other shows to commercially energize the city in the middle of the commercial campaign. This has caused the council to gather "more than 200 people" on Santa Clara Street to listen to the Jazz Music Band or the Sant Narcís neighborhood to be filled with spectators with the "Christmas Poem" by actor Martí Peraferrer.

The vice mayor of Girona, Gemma Geis, assures that this is a formula that they have never used in their area but that they value very positively for its performance. She assures that these activities have many benefits, including commercial ones, but they also help "bring culture closer to all audiences", transmit an environment of security and improve the "quality of life of people."

For this reason, Geis points out that this could be "the line to follow" in the commercial revitalization in the different neighborhoods of Girona, beyond the Christmas holidays.

For their part, the merchants would also have given their approval to the programming that has been carried out for these days.

The vice mayor has detailed that the area is in a process of "rethinking" many of the actions that were carried out in order to improve those that do not work and maintain those that do give good results.

Another example is guided tours of the city. These holidays, visits have been made to emblematic businesses and now the council is waiting to have the results of the visit to check their performance. In any case, the vice mayor warns that she already has "some new guided tour" in mind to offer a "different vision" to visitors.

Gemma Geis maintains that one of the priorities in these actions is that they are "proposed by the people of Girona." In this sense, the vice mayor emphasizes that she does not want to forget "this view of Girona in the world" to attract foreign visitors but "without giving up the way of doing the city."

Looking ahead to 2024, the intention is to maintain these actions. For this, the Economic Promotion area has a global budget of 3.6 million euros. This money will have to be used to energize the city but also for other actions planned in the municipal budget.
